BJP plans massive campaign to promote farm laws amid backlash

The BJP has planned a massive campaign across the country to promote the Centre’s farm laws against which the farmers have been protesting outside Delhi since November 26. The drive will include 100 press conferences and 700 farmers’ meetings in 700 districts, reported NDTV.

Through the drive, which will witness the presence of the Union cabinet ministers, the party will promote the measures taken by the government to address the farmers’ concerns on the new agricultural reforms. It will also address questions and concerns of the people, the report said.

The plans for the massive campaign come after the protesting farmers on Wednesday rejected the Centre’s written assurance for amendments in the farm laws and announced strengthening of the protests.

Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar had Thursday said he’s ready for further discussions with the farmer leaders. He said the central government is ready for further discussions with an open mind, but the farmer leaders are stuck on the repeal of the laws.

The farmers’ protests entered its sixteenth day on Friday with thousands of them camping outside the national capital while talks are going on between the farm leaders and the government. They arrived at the borders last month after breaking police barricades and braving tear gas and water cannons, to get their voices heard against the farm laws that they think will serve only corporate interests.
