The Bhim Azad chief was sent to judicial custody on December 21 for protesting against Citizenship Amendment Act.

Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad was detained in Hyderabad on Sunday (January 26) ahead of his participation in a protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The Lungerhouse police officials who arrested said the protesters did not have any police permission for the protest. The rally was organised by the students of Tata Institue of Social Science (TISS) and Hyderabad University on the 71st Republic Day. He was heading to Crystal Gardens, a functional hall at Mehdipatnam, the starting point of the rally.

Azad’s arrest comes nearly ten days after his release on bail from Tihar Jail on January 16, where he was held on charges of inciting a crowd to take up an anti-CAA protest in the national capital.

According to Hindustan Times, Azad was first taken to Habeeb Nagar police station before being shifted to Bollaram police station after a crowd started to gather at the Habeeb Nagar police station. All others who were arrested have been taken to Goshamahal stadium.

Earlier, Azad had warned the government that “every Bagh (garden) would turn into Shaheen Bagh” if the government does not withdraw the law.
