Bharat Petroleum refuels more than 100 Lankan flights amid fuel shortage
With the fuel shortage situation getting worse in the island nation of Sri Lanka, some of the country’s flights were able to operate with help coming from India.
According to Bharat Petroleum, more than 100 flights belonging to Sri Lankan Airlines were provided fuel in Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and other airports in India.
“We are pleased to support the Sri Lankan Airlines, with the refuelling of their long-haul flights at Indian airports, to overcome the jet fuel shortage in their country,” said Bharat Petroleum in a release.
For the last few months, Sri Lanka has been facing a fuel shortage and reportedly there have been shootings by the Army at people who were standing in queues to get the fuel.
Sources said that following a request to refuel the international flights belonging to Sri Lankan Airlines, Bharat Petroleum provided fuel.
“So far, more than 100 flights have been refuelled at Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai and Kochi airports so far,” said Bharat Petroleum.

The official said that the company is proud to be associated with the defence services in India. It operates and maintains Aviation facilities at multiple locations across the country catering to defence aircraft.
“BPCL is the only oil company in India to have an equity stake in the first Greenfield Airport at Cochin International Airport Limited where we own and operate state of an art hydrant refuelling system. We are also the first company to introduce an electronic database,” said the official.
Besides providing aviation services at the airports, the company also renders fueling services at remote locations, away from airports, to refuel the aircraft/helicopters of VVIPs or in rescue efforts during natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes and other situations.
