The next time you feel guilty catching forty winks at work, don’t be. A Bengaluru start-up is paving the way now to make the ‘afternoon nap’ a legitimate part of a work day.

Wakefit Solutions recently shared a post on Twitter in which they announced that they have officially announced a 30-minute nap for its employees during a work day. In short, the company said that all employees will have the ‘Right to Nap’ everyday for 30 minutes from 2 pm to 2.30 pm.

All the calendars of the employees will be blocked during this time as official nap time. In his internal mail, the CEO of Wakefit Solutions Chaitanya Ramalingegowda wrote, “We have been in the business of sleep for over six years now and yet have failed to do justice to a crucial aspect of rest – the afternoon nap. We have always taken naps seriously, but starting today, we will be taking things up a notch.”

The entrepreneur quoted studies done by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Harvard to drive home the importance of the afternoon nap. He said that a NASA study reveals that a 26-minute catnap can enhance performance by 33 per cent, while a Harvard report shows how getting enough sleep can prevent burnout.
He pointed out that research reveals that afternoon naps help with memory, concentration, creativity, and productivity.

The entrepreneur also said that the company is working towards creating ‘cosy nap pods’ and ‘quiet rooms’ in the office to build the ‘perfect nap” space for its employees.

The Head Of Brand at Wakefit, Prateek Malpani, took to LinkedIn to share the mail Ramalingegowda sent to all his employees. Malpani confirmed the news adding that this is for REAL. “We just announced official nap time. I can proudly say I am getting paid to sleep at work,” he wrote in his caption.

A cat nap or power nap is a short sleep that occurs before deep sleep and is meant to revive a drowsy person quickly.
