In fresh trouble for Kangana Ranaut, lyricist Javed Akhtar has filed a criminal complaint against the Bollywood actress for allegedly making defamatory and “baseless comments” against him in the media.

On Tuesday evening (November 3), Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut took to Twitter to say that Akhtar had filed the complaint before the Metropolitan Magistrate at Andheri, Mumbai.

“Lyricist Javed Akhtar files criminal complaint against Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut for making defamatory statements on national and international television. The complaint has been filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate at Andheri, Mumbai,” Shiv Sena MP Raut tweeted.

Reacting to this, Kangana wrote on her Twitter handle in Hindi, “There was a lioness ….. and a pack of wolves.”

According to news agency PTI, Akhtar has sought action against Kangana under the relevant provisions of the IPC for defamation. As per the complaint, Kangana had recently made certain “baseless comments” on Akhtar which has caused damage to the reputation of the veteran poet-lyricist.

It added that she dragged Akhtar’s name while referring to a “coterie” existing in Bollywood following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June. She had also claimed that Akhtar had threatened her to not speak about her alleged relationship with actor Hrithik Roshan, it said.

All these statements made by the actress have garnered views in lakhs and thus tarnished Akhtar’s reputation, the complaint said.

Last month, Mumbai police issued notices to Kangana and her sister Rangoli Chandel, asking them to appear before cops to record their statements in connection with a case filed against them for allegedly promoting enmity between communities through their remarks.

In Karnataka, an FIR was filed against Kangana for her tweets criticising the farmers during their protests against farm bills.

Earlier, in a tweet, Kangana had referred to Mumbai as “POK” (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) and this led to her public spat with the ruling Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.

“Sanjay Raut Shiv Sena leader has given me an open threat and asked me not to come back to Mumbai, after Aazadi graffitis in Mumbai streets and now open threats, why Mumbai is feeling like Pakistan occupied Kashmir? (sic),” she had tweeted on September 3.

Again on September 14, she stuck to her “PoK analogy” after she made a short visit to Mumbai from her home state Himachal Pradesh. “With a heavy heart leaving Mumbai, the way I was terrorised all these days, constant attacks and abuses hurled at me attempts to break my house after my work place, alert security with lethal weapons around me, must say my analogy about POK was bang on (sic),” the actress wrote on Twitter.

Also in September, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) undertook demolition of illegal alterations at the Bandra bungalow of Kangana. However, the Bombay High Court asked the BMC to stayed the demolition process.
