‘Agonized’ by farmers’ 'pain', Sikh priest kills self at Delhi border

A Sikh cleric from Haryana, who was protesting with farmers against the Centre agriculture laws at the Delhi border, on Wednesday (December 16) committed suicide to “express his anger and pain against the government’s injustice,” NDTV reported.

Police said the 65-year-old priest identified as Baba Ram Singh shot himself.

He reportedly left behind a suicide note in which he spoke about the pain of the famers who are agitating for their rights and blamed the government for lending a deaf ear to them.

“Have seen pain of farmers fighting to ensure their rights and struggling on roads… feeling a lot of pain as the government is not doing justice… to do injustice is a sin and to tolerate it is also a sin,” NDTV quoted the suicide letter as saying.

Singh was rushed to Park hospital in Panipat, but was declared dead by doctors on arrival, the report said.

Thousands of famers have been protesting at the borders of Delhi to demand a repeal of the Centre’s recently introduced farm laws.
