After his visit to Denmark on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set for the India-Nordic summit on Wednesday.

The summit will see the participation of political leaders from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland. The leaders are expected to assess their cooperation since the first summit in 2018 and weigh in on key issues including climate change, COVID and post-pandemic recovery, renewable energy and security.

Modi will make a short stopover at Paris while on his way back to India and meet French President Emmanuel Macron.

Modi’s Tuesday’s visit to Denmark included bilateral talks with Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen. He later attended a dinner hosted by the Queen of the Kingdom of Denmark, Margrethe II at the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen.

In the earlier part of the day, Modi and Fredriksen also held delegation-level talks to review the progress of Green Strategic Partnership between India and Denmark.

In regard to the crisis in Ukraine, Modi reiterated India’s pitch for an early cessation of hostilities, while suggesting diplomatic discourse as an alternative.

During a joint press conference, the two leaders inked nine agreements including a Declaration of Intent (DoI) on Migration and Mobility, a MoU on cooperation in skill development, vocational education and entrepreneurship and the launch of energy policy dialogue between the two countries.

In a tweet, Modi called the talks with his Danish counterpart “productive,” while the latter expressed hopes that “India will influence Russia” to end the war in Ukraine.

The Indian prime minister addressed the Indian diaspora in Denmark in Copenhagen in the evening. The event saw the participation of almost 1,000 Indians living in Denmark including students, researchers, and businessmen.

Modi wrapped up the day with the dinner at Amalienborg Palace.
