Following his surprise visit to Ladakh on Friday (July 3) morning to interact with soldiers posted there, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapathi Bhavan to discuss issues of national and international importance in the backdrop of rising tensions with China.

The two leaders discussed issues of national and international importance, Rashtrapati Bhavan officials said. The official twitter handle tweeted out a picture of the two leaders seated at a safe distance from each other, wearing masks while discussing to meet the requirements of COVID pandemic.

The meeting comes after the Prime Minister had visited Leh earlier this week and addressed soldiers following the June 15 clashes in the higher reaches of that region with Chinese troops. 20 army personnel were martyred in the Galwan Valley clash while a Times Now report said that more than 40 Chinese soldiers were wounded and killed in the clash.

His visit was largely hailed and perceived as one sending out a strong message to China while boosting the morale of Indian soldiers posted in the territory. He visited the Leh Army hospital and spoke to soldiers who had been injured in the violent face-off with China on June 15. He also travelled to Nimu, a forward post, and interacted with troops there.
