The official Twitter handle of the Aam Adami Party (AAP) tweeted an image on February 26 alleging the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of fomenting violence over CAA in Delhi.

“Almost all incidents of violence are occurring in the areas where BJP won seats. How can this be a coincidence?” the AAP said. It accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of inaction and inept handling of the violence over the past three days.

The BJP had won eight seats and the AAP 62 in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly elections.

The tweet includes an image of the assembly seats won by the BJP. It pins the locations of the places in northeast Delhi where violence erupted and shows the constituencies won by the BJP. The image also sports a cut-out of Amit Shah.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejariwal, at a press meet on February 25, told the media that he had urged local MLAs to conduct peace marches in their respective constituencies by roping in the police.

The police were not able to take action because they had no orders from higher authorities, he said.

The top leaders of the country, including Sonia Gandhi, had questioned the government inaction.

NCP MP Supriya Sule sought the resignation of the Home Minister. The Delhi High Court slammed the government saying ‘it cannot allow 1984 to happen again.’ The court directed the government to contain the situation at the earliest.

The death toll in the Delhi violence had touched 20 as on Wednesday afternoon and many were being treated for injuries at various hospitals.
