47 more Chinese apps banned by govt; PUBG likely on the list

The Indian government has reportedly banned 47 more Chinese apps, taking the total number of mobile applications banned for being prejudicial to sovereignty, integrity and defence of the country, to 106.

According to a source privy to the development, 47 additional Chinese apps that have been banned now were clones and variants of the apps which were blocked earlier. The list of additional apps that have been banned was not immediately available, and there is no official word on the matter yet. However word is that top Chinese gaming apps like PUBG mobile is in the list.

An order to this effect was issued on Friday, the source said.

Earlier on June 29, the government had banned 59 Chinese apps to “protect national interest and security”. Hugely popular app Tik Tok and other widely used apps like CamScanner, SHEIN, Shareit, Helo, UC browser etc.

The first digital strike came amidst rising tensions between India and China at Ladakh border. The govt also cited complaints about data of Indian users being transferred abroad without authorisation.
