Indian Army soldiers shot down three heavily-armed terrorists in an encounter on Monday (June 1) after intercepting them during an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, officials said.

A group of terrorists attempted to sneak into this side from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of Monday but were intercepted by the alert troops near Kalal village, triggering a gunfight, officials told PTI.

They said three terrorists were killed as the army successfully foiled their infiltration attempt.

Reports said the troops have launched a search operation in Rajouri and a few villages in Poonch district. The Border Security Force (BSF) and police in Hiranagar area of Kathua-Samba sector have also begun a separate search operation.

The incident comes days after security forces thwarted an explosion similar to the 2019 Pulwama incident which killed more than 40 CRPF men, after intercepting an IED-laden vehicle in the district.
