My govt will work towards saving rivers from pollution: Kovind
President Ram Nath Kovind has begun addressing a joint session of Parliament ahead of the Budget Session. This is the first speech by the President after the new Cabinet was sworn in under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 30.
The speech cleared by the cabinet will be a statement of intent. The address is expected to lay the broad contours of what the Modi 2.0 sarkar intends to do. He will deliver the speech at the Central Hall of Parliament.
The first session of the 17th Lok Sabha began on Monday in which the newly elected members took oath and on Wednesday, Om Birla, two-time MP from Rajasthan, was elected Speaker of the House. The Rajya Sabha will begin its proceedings from today after the President’s address.
The Lok Sabha will have a total of 30 sittings and the Rajya Sabha 27 sittings till July 26. The Economic Survey will be presented on July 4 and the Budget will be tabled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 5.
During this session, it is believed that NDA government is likely to introduce a slew of key legislation including a revised triple talaq Bill.
