First phase polling concludes; two killed in AP violence
The first phase of polling, to elect the 17th Lok Sabha, began this morning with 18 states and two union territories voting for 91 Lok Sabha seats. The polling largely concluded at 5 pm but the time was extended to 6 pm in some booths. Violence was reported from various parts of Andhra Pradesh. TDP worker Siddha Bhaskar Reddy was killed after he sustained injuries in a clash with the YSRCP activists at Mirapuram in Tadipatri Assembly constituency of Anantapur district. Another person too lost his life in poll-related violence.
The polling figures by 8 pm were as follows: Arunachal Pradesh (2 seats), 66 per cent; Bihar (4 seats), 50 per cent; Lakshadweep (one seat), 66 per cent; Maharashtra (7 seats), 56 per cent; Meghalaya (2 seats), 67.16 per cent; Odisha (4 seats), 68 per cent; Uttar Pradesh (8 seats), 63.69 per cent.
