Zelenskyy sacks ambassadors to Germany, India, three others; no reason given

Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday (July 9), dismissed Kyiv’s ambassador to Germany. The president also dismissed several other top foreign envoys’, said the official presidential website.

The president announced the sacking of Ukraine’s ambassadors to Germany, India, Czech Republic, Norway and Hungary, through an official government order, which didn’t state the reason behind the same.

This comes as Ukraine continues to fend itself in face of Russian advances and Zelenskyy pursues his diplomats to garner international support and military aid for Ukraine.

Ukraine’s relations with Germany are currently under strain, as Germany pushes Ottawa to return to Russia a German-made turbine undergoing maintenance in Canada. Germany wants the turbine to be returned to Russian natural gas giant Gazprom for it to pump gas to Europe.

Kyiv, on the other hand, has urged Canada not to ship the turbine to Russia since doing so would mean a violation of sanctions imposed on Moscow.
