Trump administration allows H1-B visa holders to return to old jobs with exceptions

The Donald Trump government decided on Wednesday (Aug 12) to ease H1-B visa restrictions and allow people with jobs to re-enter United States and get back their old jobs

Dependents like spouse and children of the primary visa holder too will be allowed to travel along, the state department advisory said. They permitted “travel by applicants seeking to resume ongoing employment in the United States in the same position with the same employer and visa classification.”

Categories of employees like technical specialists, senior-level managers, and other workers who the administration stated are “essential to America’s economy recovery, holding a H1-B visa” were allowed to return to their jobs by the administration, thereby relaxing the visa ban a little.

They allowed public health or healthcare professional, or researcher to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and contribute to ongoing medical research in an area with a substantial public health benefit.

US President Donald Trump had signed a proclamation in this regard on June 22.

“Travel supported by a request from a US government agency or entity to meet critical US foreign policy objectives or to satisfy treaty or contractual obligations. This would include individuals, identified by the Department of Defense or another US government agency, performing research, providing IT support/services, or engaging other similar projects essential to a US government agency,” the advisory stated.
