Iranian Vice President tests positive for coronavirus

Iranian Vice President Masoumeh Ebtekar has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to media reports.

A state news agency quoted the advisor to the Iranian Vice President as saying, “Ebtekar showed signs of infection by the coronavirus and was tested. The results came back positive.”

According to a report by state news agency IRNA, the country has reported 26 deaths so far due to the coronavirus, which is the highest death toll outside China.

Iran reported 106 new cases on Thursday (February 27), bringing the total number of those infected by the virus to 254.

Schools, universities, and other educational institutions have been temporarily shut to prevent the spread of the virus. Citizens from China have been banned from entering Iran as a precaution to curb the spread of the virus.

The outbreak, which originated from China’s Hubei province, has now spread to many other countries like South Korea, Italy, Brazil, US, France, India, Thailand and many others.
