Virat Kohli on Wednesday (November 15) went past batting legend Sachin Tendulkar's world record ODI tally of 49 centuries, during the India versus New Zealand World Cup 2023.

In front of Tendulkar and over 30,000-plus spectators at the Wankhede Stadium, Kohli brought up his 50th ODI ton in the World Cup knockout game against the Kiwis. His historic knock ended at 117 off 113 with nine fours and two sixes. Thanks Kohli's ton and Shreyas Iyer's hundred, India posted a mammoth 397/4 in 50 overs.

Kohli had equalled Tendulakar's record of 49 ODI hundreds on November 5, on his 35th birthday.

The historic moment came on a ground where Kohli had carried Tendulkar on his shoulders when India won the 2011 World Cup.

Kohli has scored 50 ODI centuries in 279 innings (290 matches). Tendulkar's illustrious career saw him play in a record 463 ODIs.
