Navys Dornier carries out maiden night evacuation of patient to Kochi from Lakshadweep

A 19-year-old boy with a head injury was airlifted from Agatti islands in Lakshadweep by the Indian Navy to this port city in a Dornier aircraft.

The Dornier aircraft carried out its maiden night evacuation from the islands on Wednesday, the Navy said.

The boy had an accident on ship MV Corals on Wednesday evening. According to official sources, a wooden crate weighing 20 kg fell on the victim after the nylon rope snapped from the crane lifting it from the cargo hatch.

The boy was initially admitted to Rajiv Gandhi speciality hospital in Agatti with head injury.

The aircraft landed at 1.16 AM at Agatti today and flew from there to Kochi at 1.50 AM.

The boys family expressed gratitude to the Indian Navy as it was for the first time, a Dornier aircraft utilized the night landing facility at the islands to airlift a patient.
