3.2 crore Indians watched Argentina vs France WC final live stream: JioCinema

The FIFA World Cup 2022 final between Argentina and France on Sunday (December 18) received massive digital viewership in India, according to the rights holders.

The match at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar’s Al Daayen was watched by 32 million (3.2 crore) Indian viewers on JioCinema mobile application, according to a press release by the platform on Monday.

“Even as curtains come down on the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, JioCinema heralds a new dawn as digital viewership went past TV in India for the first time for a global marquee sports event. A monumental 32mn viewers tuned in to JioCinema on the final day that delivered arguably the most extraordinary FIFA World Cup Final as Argentina picked the FIFA World Cup Trophy for the first time since 1986,” it said.

“Over 110 million viewers consumed the content on digital, making India one of the highest digital viewership markets for the FIFA World Cup. On the back of nail-biting contests and riveting upsets, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 held India’s attention with a mammoth 40bn minutes of watch time being clocked across Sports18 and JioCinema, which continued to be the No. 1 downloaded free app on iOS and Android throughout the tournament,” it added.

In what was hailed as one of the greatest FIFA World Cup finals, Argentina defeated defending champion France 4-2 on penalties (3-3 after extra time).

Messi scored two goals and another in the penalty shootout while Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick for France went in vain.
