Saif was trolled on social media for his comments on Adipurush that it depicts the “humane side” of Raavan and “justifies” his abduction of Sita. Saif had said in the interview, “We will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha.”

Social media erupted on December 5 and 6 with objections against the actor’s comments; he was accused of distorting “cultural” facts and some even said the actor should be recast.

Adipurush is directed by Om Raut and has Prabhas playing Ram. Official confirmation is awaited on whether Kriti Sanon and Sunny Singh will essay the roles of Sita and Lakshman.
