'Jayeshbhai Jordhaar' has a poor start; 'KGF-Chapter 2' heads towards ₹440 crore mark

Update: 2022-05-14 14:00 GMT
KGF:Chapter-2 (Hindi) has notched up a massive ₹420.70 crore in a matter of four weeks. The fifth week too has started well for the film

Bollywood, which has been suffering a string of flops, seems to be faced with another major dud.

Superstar Ranveer Singh’s Jayeshbhai Jordhaar, a satire on patriarchy, sex selection tests and superstition, has collected just ₹3.25 crore on the first day. And, the film’s ticket sales are not expected to pick up traction in the coming days, said trade experts. Jayeshbhai Jordhaar has been panned by most critics as a film that has a rambling plot and lacks verve. The fate of this film resembles that of Bunty aur Babli 2, which released on 2021-end, shortly after the second wave and ended up as a huge flop.

The Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherji starrer had opened to ₹2.60 crore, while Ranveer Singh’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar has done a little better. The buzz around the film is poor and so audiences may not head to watch it over the weekend.

According to a report in Money Control, this film is expected to collect an estimated ₹12-13 crores post the weekend, and maybe some more during the weekdays, before the much-anticipated Kartik Aryan and Kiara Advani starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Kangana Ranaut’s Dhaakad, which lands in cinema theatres on Friday.

The report estimates that the the lifetime earnings for the film could be an estimated ₹20-25 crore as a best-case scenario. This can be compared to the other box office disappointments of 2022 so far, such as Attack, Runway 34 and Jersey. All figures are according to collections as per production and distribution sources, said the report.

Meanwhile, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, has taken off to a viable start with ₹79.50 crore over its first weekend. It added ₹20 crore during the week to its earnings and coupled with Friday earnings of ₹3.25 crores, the film has crossed the ₹100 crore mark.

However, the film which continues to thrive is KGF:Chapter-2 (Hindi). The film shot past Gangubhai Kathiawadi’s ₹129.10 crore, and has notched up a massive ₹420.70 crore in a matter of four weeks. The fifth week has ostensibly started off reasonably well, with the film steadily moving towards the ₹440 crore mark. This figure is close to what the colossus, Baahubali:The Conclusion, raked in, which is ₹511 crores in its entire theatrical run.
