Blockbuster 'Chandramukhi' to have a sequel after 15 years
After 15 years, Rajinikanth-starrer Chandramukhi is set to have a sequel with actor and choreographer Raghava Lawrence on Thursday (April 9) announcing that his next film will be titled Chandramukhi-2.
Lawrence, in a Facebook post, said he would be playing the lead in the film with the permission and blessings of Rajinikanth. P Vasu, who directed Chandramukhi, will take the directorial role for its sequel too, while Sun Pictures will be producing the movie.

Chandramukhi, which is a remake of Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu, was the biggest blockbuster of 2005. Starring Jyothika, Nayanthara, Prabhu, Vadivelu and Vineeth, the comedy-horror film ran over 800 days at Chennai’s Shanthi Theatre, which belonged to the producers of the movie.
Lawrence too is not new to the comedy-horror genre. Muni, which was his directorial debut in Tamil, has spawned three sequels to date. In all four films, Lawrence played the lead and none of them are direct sequels. In fact, Kanchana — the second film in the series — is being remade in Hindi as Laxmmi Bomb, starring Akshay Kumar.
From his advance, Lawrence pledged ₹3 crore for COVID-19 relief fund. He said he would contribute ₹50 lakh each to PM CARES Fund, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s relief fund, film employees’ union (FEFSI) and dancers’ union. He will also donate ₹25 lakh to disabled persons and ₹75 lakh to daily labourers.
