Pollachi police on April 3 registered a case against an AIADMK functionary, Manibharathi, for allegedly trying to bribe voters.

According to the police, on the night of Tuesday, deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam addressed a public meeting in support of his party’s Pollachi candidate C Mahendran near the Municipality Girl’s Higher Secondary School in Pollachi town. As a mark of attendance they all were given dummy currency notes and directed to collect money using the notes from a middle school in town.

Once the word spread that money was about to be given, poll officials too came to know about it and rushed to the venue. “However, they could not seize any cash even though people were found barging into the school to get money,” police added.

After enquiring those who had turned up at the school, poll officials filed a police complaint at the Pollachi east police station based on which a probe is on.
