In headlines often for political reasons, former Bihar Deputy CM and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has revealed that he had once captained Indian cricketer Virat Kohli in domestic matches.

Before he took a plunge in politics, Tejashwi played a total of 1 First Class, 2 List A and 4 T20 matches in his career. He represented Jharkhand in the domestic cricket, making his First Class debut against Vidarbha in November 2009.

He was also a part of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the first season of IPL in 2008, and remained part of the franchise till 2012 but did not feature in a single game.

Son of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad, Tejashwi claimed that Kohli had played under his captaincy in domestic cricket and many of the players in Team India were his batchmates.

“I was a cricketer and no one talks about it. Virat Kohli played under my captaincy. Did anyone ever talk about it? Why don’t they do so? As a professional, I played good cricket. Many Team India players are my batchmates,” the RJD leader said in an interview to a news channel.

Expressing displeasure that his cricketing career has been totally forgotten, he said, “I had to quit as my ligaments were fractured. Let it be.”

His remarks drew attention on social media with cricket fans coming out with their reactions, some even trolling him. “Well he is not wrong. He is talking about his dream11 cricket,” one user on X said.
