The latest update by the Union health ministry had placed the number at 1,82,143 cases, including 5,164 deaths. Currently, there are 89,995 active cases in India, and 86,983 patients have been cured or discharged. The country has reported over 1.85 lakh so far till Sunday evening, reports suggest.

In the 24 hours till Sunday morning, India had reported a record single-day jump of 8,380 fresh COVID-19 cases. This was the first time the country crossed the 8,000-mark in a single-day spike. The rise in cases comes at a time when the country is looking forward to a phase-wise opening after over two months of lockdown.
The United States tops the tally of the worst-affected nations with more than 18 lakh cases and over one lakh deaths. Brazil, which comes in second on this list, has reported over five lakh cases, followed by Russia with over 4.05 lakh infections. Spain and the UK occupy the subsequent spots with over 2.7 lakh cases each.
