72 families in Delhi quarantined as pizza delivery boy tests COVID positive

As many as 72 families have been quarantined in south Delhi, after a 19-year-old pizza delivery boy tested positive for coronavirus.

According to reports, the delivery agent had delivered pizzas till April 12 and visited the localities of Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar and Savitri Nagar in the past two weeks.

He has been admitted to RML hospital and 20 other delivery agents who came in contact with him have been quarantined at a facility in Chhattrapur, said an NDTV report.

The 72 families where the teen delivered the pizzas to in the past 15 days have been quarantined in their homes.

Medical officials suspect the teen may have contracted the infection while delivering pizza as he had no travel history, the NDTV report said.

South Delhi district magistrate BM Mishra, while speaking to Hindustan Times said the delivery agent had a cough, which was suspected to be caused by a common flu. He, however, was sent to hospital when he didn’t show any signs of recovery.

The total number of positive cases in Delhi stands at 1,578, as per Union Health Ministry report on Thursday (April 16) while the death toll reached 32.
