Telangana on Friday (October 6) launched the 'Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme' to daily feed about 23 lakh students in government schools.

Telangana ministers, including KT Rama Rao, formally launched the scheme at different locations. Speaking after the launch, Telangana minister for IT and industries Rama Rao, son of chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, said the scheme will be implemented in all 27,147 government schools across the state.

"The breakfast is very nutritious. Taste is also very good," he said.

Rama Rao said the menu includes idly-sambar, wheat rava upma, poori-alu korma, tomato bath, kichidi, millet idly and pongal among other items. He asked officials to ensure that the food quality was maintained and that random samples had to be collected to test the quality regularly.

A similar scheme in Tamil Nadu is implemented for school children of classes I to V. But, the Telangana CM wanted this scheme to be enforced for children upto Class 10.

Launch advanced

The Telangana government had earlier planned to launch the scheme from October 24, Vijaya Dashami day, however, it advanced the date.

The scheme is applicable to students studying in government and local bodies schools. It aims to improve the nutritional status of school children and alleviate the burden of working mothers.
