In the midst of an investigation involving Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment case, K. Marigowda, the chairperson of MUDA, stepped down from his position on Wednesday (October 16).

Health reasons

Marigowda, who is known to have close ties with the Chief Minister, attributed his resignation to ongoing health concerns. Last month, he was hospitalised after experiencing severe exhaustion and distress during a car journey to Bengaluru. Initially treated in Bengaluru, he was later moved to Mysuru for more advanced medical care.

Criticism

Both Siddaramaiah and Marigowda have faced criticism from the BJP and opposition parties over allegations of irregularities in the MUDA land allotment process. The BJP has demanded Siddaramaiah's resignation after the Karnataka High Court rejected his appeal against the Governor's decision to allow his prosecution.

The case revolves around accusations that MUDA allotted compensatory plots to Siddaramaiah's wife, BM Parvathi, in a prime area of Mysuru with a higher market value than her original land acquired by the authority. Activists claim the compensation land provided to Parvathi far exceeded the value of her previously acquired 3.16-acre plot, raising concerns about fairness in the scheme.
