Bengaluru’s first digital population clock to be unveiled at ISEC on November 8

Bengaluru will get its first digital population clock on Friday (November 8), and it will be installed at the Institute of Social and Economic Change (ISEC).

The digital population clock will display real-time population estimates of Karnataka and India. It will be inaugurated on Friday, and will be update the state’s population every one minute and 10 seconds and the country’s population every two seconds, a report in The Hindu said.

It has been set up at the entrance of ISEC with the objective of creating awareness about the population growth of the country and providing authentic data for researchers and scholars, the report added.

Digital population clocks have been set up at 18 Population Research Centres (PRCs) in 16 states across India.

The digital population clock in Bengaluru has come up thanks to a joint project by ISEC and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

It is a significant step towards enhancing public understanding of demographic changes. It will serve as a constant reminder of the rapid population growth and the need for sustainable development, he said.

India is now the world’s most populous country after it surpassed China in April 2023. The country’s current population as of November 8 is more than 145 crore (1.45 billion).
