Even as the Enforcement Directorate(ED) is probing the issue of financial irregularities at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) on Thursday cancelled the registration of its former principal Sandip Ghosh.

Ghosh is currently in CBI custody in connection with the rape-murder case of a woman doctor at the hospital. An official told PTI that Ghosh has been removed from the list of Registered Medical Practitioners maintained by the WBMC on September 19.

His licence was cancelled under various provisions of the Bengal Medical Act, 1914, he said.

In its submission before the court, the CBI had said that On Ghosh was wilfully absent from the scene of the crime instead of closely monitoring the process. The agency has already alleged that the crime scene had been tampered with. They had questioned Ghosh multiple times to know what steps he had taken after he came to know of the rape and murder of the young doctor inside the hospital premises.
