Uber driver sends inappropriate messages to woman passenger; company responds
“This incident has not only left me feeling uncomfortable but has also raised serious security and safety concerns," she said.
A woman passenger said she received “inappropriate messages” from an Uber cab driver after she recently completed a ride. After she complained on social media, the company responded.
Bhumika, a homeopathic doctor, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the incident and asked Uber to take her complaint seriously. She also shared a screenshot of the messages sent by the Uber driver.
“I am writing to express my serious concern regarding a recent experience I had with one of your drivers. On 19/10/2023, I encountered a distressing situation where I received inappropriate messages from one of your drivers after a ride,” she wrote on X.
She continued, “This incident has not only left me feeling uncomfortable but has also raised serious security and safety concerns. I strongly believe that Uber should be a platform where customers, especially women, can trust the drivers and the overall experience. This incident has shaken that trust, and I am deeply concerned about the safety of female passengers who rely on Uber for transportation.”
“I kindly request that you take immediate and decisive action to investigate this matter, identify the driver involved, and take appropriate measures to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future. The safety and security of Uber passengers should be a top priority, and I hope you will take this complaint seriously," she added.
Replying to her message, Uber’s message on X read, “Hi Bhumika, sorry to hear about the trouble. Could you please share with us the mobile number linked to your account via Direct Message? We'll follow up.”
Unhappy with Uber’s response, she asked, “Why are you not responding to my messages?”
Later, the company wrote that it is investigating the incident. “Hi Bhumika, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. We understand how distressing this situation is for you right now. Our team is currently investigating this concern, and we will get back to you with an update shortly. We appreciate your understanding in this regard.”
There were many responses by X users to Bhumika’s post and some suggested that she file a police complaint.
While replying to one of the X users, she wrote, “I felt very frightened after that experience, and the person even knows where I live. It's really distressing.”
