Shahid Latif, Pathankot terror attack mastermind, shot dead in Pakistan

Latif, associated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed, had from Sialkot guided four terrorists who carried out the audacious terror attack at the Pathankot airbase.

Shahid Latif, one of India's most wanted terrorists who was linked to the 2016 Pathankot terror attack in Punjab that killed seven security personnel, was on Wednesday (October 11) shot dead at Sialkot in Pakistan.

Police said Latif, 41, was killed inside a mosque. The gunmen, whose identity is not known, fled the scene on a motorcycle. He was a Maulvi at the Noot Masjid in Sialkot, media reports said.

Latif, associated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed, had from Sialkot guided the four terrorists who carried out the audacious terror attack at the Pathankot airbase in Punjab.

He had been arrested in India in 1994 on terror charges and jailed. After completing his sentence in 2010, he was deported to Pakistan via the Wagah border.

Latif was also an accused in the hijacking of an Indian airlines plane in 1999 and was listed as a wanted terrorist by the Indian government in 2010.
