CJI Chandrachud recommends Justice Sanjiv Khanna as next CJI

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, who is set to retire in November, has recommended Justice Sanjiv Khanna’s name to the Centre as the next CJI following convention.

Justice Khanna is the second senior judge of the Supreme Court who was elevated from the Delhi High Court in January 2019.

If the Centre accepts the recommendation, Justice Khanna will be the 51st Chief Justice of India but for only a short term of seven months. He is set to retire on May 13, 2025.
