In the wake of Congress's defeat in the Haryana polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tore into the Opposition party on Wednesday (October 9), accusing it of divisive politics and corruption. During a virtual address in Maharashtra, where he inaugurated multiple development projects, Modi made several pointed remarks about Congress and its governance.

Here are the five key points he made:

1. 'Congress spreads hatred and divides communities'

Modi accused the Congress of being an irresponsible party and likened it to a "factory" that spreads hatred. According to him, the party's primary strategy is to divide Hindus and pit communities against each other for political gains. He stated that Congress consistently exploits caste divisions to strengthen its vote bank, especially during elections.

2. 'Congress misleads minorities for votes'

Modi claimed that Congress deliberately instils fear among Muslims, turning them into a loyal vote bank. He slammed Congress for focusing on fearmongering instead of development and nation-building, in contrast to BJP's inclusive development agenda, which he said benefits the poor, farmers, youth, and women.

3. 'Provokes' farmers, youth, and Dalits

The Prime Minister accused Congress of trying to manipulate various groups, including farmers, Dalits, and youth, by spreading misinformation. However, Modi claimed that these efforts backfired, as these communities now recognise the positive impact of BJP’s policies, especially in Haryana, where the BJP received vital support from Dalits and farmers.

4. 'Party’s rule was marked by corruption'

Modi drew a sharp comparison between Congress’s history of corruption and the BJP’s rapid pace of development. He claimed that while under Congress rule, corruption flourished at the same scale and speed as BJP’s current developmental projects, pointing to a legacy of mismanagement and graft under the opposition party's leadership.

5. 'BJP is strengthening Maharashtra, unlike Congress'

In Maharashtra, Modi insisted that while Congress weakened the state through misrule and self-serving politics, the BJP-led government is committed to strengthening it. He pointed out the swift development of infrastructure and healthcare projects under the BJP’s administration, contrasting it with Congress’s neglect and inefficiency.
