Indian men's cricket team were declared winners of the final against Afghanistan at the Asian Games following a rain washout. India won the gold due to higher seeding.

Deepak Punia grabbed a silver after losing against Iran's Hassan Yazdani in the men's freestyle 86kg final.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty secured the gold medal in the men's doubles badminton event by defeating Choi Solgyu and Kim Wonho of the Republic of Korea with a score of 21-18, 21-16 .

The Indian women's kabaddi team has beaten Chinese Taipei in the final to add another gold to its kitty, taking the country's overall tally to a historic 100 at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

India is only the fourth country in the history of the Asian Games to win a total of 100 or more medals in a single Asiad. The other three countries to achieve this distinction are China, Japan, and South Korea.

There is a high probability that India will end up 4th in the medals tally in the Hangzhou Asian Games. If it does, it would be the country’s highest position in the continental Games since the 1962 Asian Games at Jakarta, when it was 3rd. India’s best performance was when it hosted the first Asian Games in New Delhi in 1951, when it came 2nd.

Earlier, ace Indian compound archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam grabbed a hat-trick of gold, while Aditi Swami bagged a bronze. Archer Ojas Deotale pipped Abhishek Verma in an all-India final to win Gold in the men's individual compound event

Reigning world champion Aditi Swami began the penultimate day at the continental showpiece by assuring the country of a record ninth medal in archery at these Games when she prevailed over Indonesia's Ratih Zilizati Fadhly in a one-sided bronze play-off. The 17-year-old Indian who bagged the World Championship title in Berlin two months ago was not at her best and dropped four points, but that did not matter much as she won 146-140.

Later Jyothi, who had already secured a gold in mixed pair and women's team events, made it three in a row when she rallied to defeat her formidable South Korean opponent So Chaewon 149-145.

In their first appearance at the continental meet, the Indian men's cricket team secured the gold medal at the Asian Games 2023. The final match against Afghanistan was interrupted by rain, and due to their higher seeding, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Indian team was declared the champions. This marked Afghanistan's third consecutive silver medal in the tournament. India had previously won the women's cricket gold medal at Hangzhou as well.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday hailed the Indian medal tally at the Asian Games reaching the 100-mark, saying it is the new beginning of a sporting journey to achieve newer heights.

The Indian contingent claimed the unprecedented 100th medal at the Asian Games as the women's kabaddi team beat the Chinese Taipei 26-25 in a thrilling encounter. In a thrilling match at the Asian Games 2023, Indian wrestler Deepak Punia secured his place in the men's freestyle 86kg final by defeating Uzbekistan's Javrail Shapiev with a narrow margin of 4-3. This victory ensured the 24-year-old Punia a guaranteed medal, while Shapiev, aged 26, will now compete for the bronze medal.

Deepak Punia, who previously represented India in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, faces a formidable challenge in the gold medal bout. He will be up against Hassan Yazdani, the reigning champion from the Rio 2016 Olympics and a three-time world champion in 2017, 2019, and 2021. Yazdani, hailing from IR Iran, is also the defending Asian Games champion in the 86kg category, setting the stage for an intense and highly anticipated final match.

In the men's kayak slalom semi-final at the Asian Games 2023, Hitesh Kewat of India completed the course in 123.68 seconds, securing the 10th position and a spot in the final. Meanwhile, his fellow Indian competitor, Shubham Kewat, finished 11th in the semi-final round.

The Asian Games regulations allowed only one kayaker per National Olympic Committee (NOC) to progress to the final. This rule meant that despite finishing in the top six, Uzbekistan's Shakhobiddin Boltaboev and Japan's Kosuke Saito were unable to qualify for the medal race, as their compatriots had performed better in the semi-finals.
