Mira Nazari, 34, fatally stabbed her 4-year-old daughter and attempted to kill her 10-year-old son.
In a heartbreaking incident in Modesto, California, a 34-year-old woman named Mina Nazari has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her 4-year-old daughter to death and attempting to kill her 10-year-old son.
The incident occurred on October 14, and Nazari pleaded not guilty to the charges, including first-degree murder and child abuse.
The Modesto police received a call reporting a potential assault, and upon arrival at the scene, they found the lifeless body of Fatima Sana Akram and her unharmed brother.
Nazari, suffering from mental illness, was arrested, and the community is in shock and mourning. Friends of the family have started a GoFundMe page to help with Fatima's burial expenses.
The girl's father Fahim Akram works as a full-time Uber driver.
It's important to note that law enforcement has not revealed a motive for the murder.
A neighbour shared their concern, reflecting on the husband and the young boy, acknowledging the lasting impact of the tragedy, knowing that their own mother was responsible.
Another neighbour interviewed by CBS News expressed disbelief, asking how someone could walk away from such a tragedy without being deeply affected.
A third neighbour remembered the little girl, describing her as a beautiful child with long black hair.
Mina Nazari, born in Iran, had her court hearing over Zoom with a Farsi interpreter.
Currently held without bail at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, Judge Kellie Westbrook has scheduled Nazari’s bail hearing for October 24 (Tuesday).
Deputy District Attorney Fawn Smolak insisted on the need for substantial bail, citing Nazari's relatives overseas and a potential flight risk.
The proposed bail amount is $2.635 million.
