Days after sharing his desire to bring the revered Tamil novel 'Nava Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari' to the big screen, Director S Shankar has warned the filmmakers that unauthorised use of scenes from the novel may land them in legal trouble.

During the promotional events for 'Indian 2', the noted filmmaker disclosed that he came across Su Venkatesan's book during the COVID-19 lockdown and quickly developed a deep admiration for its narrative.

However, Shankar also aired his displeasure recently regarding the unauthorised use of scenes from the novel by certain filmmakers. He took to the social media platform X and said, “Attention to all! As the copyright holder of Su. Venkatesan's iconic Tamil novel ‘Veera Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari’, I’m disturbed to see key scenes being ripped off & used without permission in many movies. Really upset to see important key scene from the novel in a recent movie trailer. Kindly refrain from using the scenes from the novel in movies, web series and any medium, Respect creators' rights! Refrain from Unauthorized adaptations of scenes, Refrain from infringement or face legal action!”

Earlier in the promotional event for Kamal Haasan's 'Indian 2', Shankar stated, “I read the highly acclaimed Vel Paari novel during the COVID lockdown and loved it very much. Immediately, I started to write it as a screenplay and completed it. I plan to make it a three-part film franchise.”

S Shankar's upcoming movie with Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, 'Game Changer', has wrapped up shooting and is gearing up for theatrical release. On the other hand, Shankar drew a lot of flak for his previous film 'Indian 2'.
