Kangana Ranaut gets notice from Chandigarh court over her film ‘Emergency’
The former president of the District Bar Association filed an application in the court claiming that she was trying to tarnish the image of the Sikh community in her film
Kangana Ranaut’s controversial film Emergency that has been waiting to be released for several months now has got the actress into more trouble.
A district court in Chandigarh has issued a notice to the actress after the former president of the District Bar Association Ravinder Singh Bassi filed an application in the court claiming that she was trying to tarnish the image of the Sikh community in her film.
Bassi alleged that the film, written and co-produced by Kangana and starring her in the lead role of the former prime minister Indira Gandhi, was not only portraying a wrong image of the Sikhs but also features several false allegations against the community.
The court has adjourned the matter to December 5.
Several Sikh groups, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, have accused the movie of misrepresenting the community and of twisting historical facts.
Kangana forced to sell Mumbai property
The delay in releasing the film, which was supposed to hit the screens last year, has put Kangana in financial trouble as well. She said she had staked her bungalow at Pali hill in Mumbai for the film, and now was forced to sell it off for ₹32 crores.
The movie’s release has been postponed due to the delay in obtaining a censor certificate.
Zee Entertainment Enterprises, which has co-produced the film, asked the Bombay High Court this month to intervene, but the court has refused to grant any urgent relief.
Emergency also features Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, and Vishak Nair.
