BJP spokesperson Shaina NC has joined the Shiv Sena (Shinde) after the party led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde fielded her from the Mumbadevi Assembly constituency.

In a social media post, Shaina made it clear that she was switched political allegiance after the “permission” of all three parties in the ruling alliance – Shiv Sena (Shinde), BJP and Ajit Pawar-led NCP.

She thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CM Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and NCP leader Ajit Pawar for giving her “an opportunity to serve the people of Mumbadevi”.

Shaina subsequently joined the Shiv Sena (Shinde) in the presence of the chief minister and others. She told the media that she wants to be people’s voice, and that she “will always be accessible and accountable to all my voters” in the constituency.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Shaina said, “I have been living in South Mumbai all my life and I realise the kind of challenges citizens here have to face, whether it is cluster development, local hygiene, or open spaces. I am committed to the people of Mumbai.”

Earlier, there were reports that BJP may field Shaina NC in Worli. But the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena announced former Congress leader Milind Deora as its Worli candidate. He will now take on Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Uddhav Thackeray's son Aaditya Thackeray.

Congress’ Amin Patel has represented Mumbadevi constituency in the state Assembly since 2009.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled to take place on November 20, while the results will be declared on November 23.
