Owaisi hits back at Priyanka Gandhi mocking Rahul's Amethi defeat in 2019
Reacting to Priyanka's accusation that hes working directly with BJP, Owaisi said his party had not participated in Amethi election that Rahul lost and also questioned secular credentials of Congress ally Shiv Sena
After Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi of 'working directly with the BJP' and helping the saffron party by splitting votes in key constituencies, the Hyderabad Lok Sabha MP hit back.
Reacting sharply, Owaisi said that neither his party nor he was involved in the election in which Rahul was defeated in the Congress bastion of Amethi in 2019, when had lost to BJP leader and Union minister Smriti Irani.
Non-secular alliances
Further, he also questioned the Congress for its "non-secular alliances" with ex-Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's (then undivided) Shiv Sena. The Shiv Sena had also participated in the Babri Masjid demolition in UP's Ayodhya, he said.
He said, "Priyanka Gandhi Vadra... your brother lost Amethi. Did I come and fight there?” Further, he added, “In Maharashtra, you have an alliance with Uddhav Thackeray. Is he secular? This is the same Shiv Sena whose workers, on December 6, destroyed the Babri Masjid."
"Are you with them?" he asked.
AAP's support of article 370 removal
Moreover, he also lambasted Congress’ alliance with Aam Aadmi Party, which had supported the removal of article 370 in J&K. And you call us BJP’s B team? he asked.
Finally, he made a jibe at the Congress saying that in the 2019 election they had lost 92 per cent of the seats in which they were competing against the BJP.
“This time you are fighting 300 seats... tell me, how many do you think you will win?" he asked
While campaigning in Rae Bareli, Priyanka had lambasted Owaisi accusing him of working directly with the BJP. She had said that wherever BJP needs him to field someone to push back other parties, he is doing it.
In an interaction with the media, Priyanka Gandhi had said "...I am telling you again and again. Asaduddin Owaisi is working directly with the BJP. Wherever the BJP needs him to field someone to push back other parties, he is doing it. It has become very clear in Telangana elections."
Telangana goes to the polls for 17 Lok Sabha seats on May 13, including the Hyderabad seat held by Owaisi.
