The Opposition slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (May 25) for his "mujra" comment about them, arguing that no former prime minister would have used such language.

This backlash followed Modi's vow to prevent the INDIA bloc from allegedly depriving Dalits and backward classes of reservations, accusing them of "enslavement" and performing "mujra" for their Muslim vote bank.

"Bihar is the land that has given a new direction to the fight for social justice. I wish to declare on its soil that I will foil the plans of the INDIA bloc to rob the SCs, STs, and OBC of their rights and divert those to Muslims. They may remain enslaved and perform 'mujra' to please their vote bank," Modi said at a rally in Bihar.

'Not befitting of a PM'

At a rally in Uttar Pradesh, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra commented, "Have you heard the prime minister's speech in Bihar? He has used such words that no other prime minister in the history of the country would have used."

Congress's media and publicity department head Pawan Khera, in a video statement, said, "Using such words is not befitting of the person sitting on the post of the prime minister."

In a post on X along with the video statement, Khera added, "Today, heard the word 'Mujra' from the Prime Minister's mouth. Modiji, what is this? Why don't you take something? "... Perhaps campaigning in the sun has affected the mind too much."

Modi also mentioned that people in Bihar were offended by remarks against migrants from the state made by Congress leaders in Punjab and Telangana and by DMK and TMC leaders in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

RJD slams Modi

"These RJD people who keep doing 'mujra' with their lantern (RJD's poll symbol) do not have the courage to speak a word in protest," he said.

The RJD reacted sharply to Modi’s "mujra" remark, with RJD leader Manoj Kumar Jha questioning if it was appropriate for the prime minister to use such language. "He has torn norms of civil discourse to shreds," Jha told PTI.

Modi accused the INDIA bloc of diverting reservations meant for Dalits and OBCs to Muslims who were carrying out a "vote jihad."

Jha dismissed these claims, stating that "backward classes of Muslims have been getting reservations even in Gujarat," where the BJP has been in power for decades. "Even the caste to which the PM belongs has a Muslim counterpart. They are getting quota benefits in Gujarat," Jha said.

'Needs medical help'

Jha also expressed concern for Modi's well-being, suggesting he might need medical help after his recent comments. "He recently spoke of himself as some sort of divine instrument, which is a clear sign of delusion of grandeur."

NCP (SP) also ripped into Modi for his "mujra" accusation, questioning if it was appropriate for the prime minister to speak in such a manner. NCP (SP) Clyde Crasto posted on social media, "What is this fascination with the alphabet 'M'? Musalman, Machli, Mangalsutra, Mutton... now '#MUJRA'. Does this behove well for the Prime Minister of India to speak like this?"
