MP: Goof-up! BJP candidate's photo appears in Congress poster at Rahul's rally
Before Rahul's address at a public rally in Mandla in MP, the photograph of the BJP candidate on a Congress campaign poster came up on the dais. When they realised their mistake, it was hastily pulled down
In a major goof-up, ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's mega rally in Mandla in Madhya Pradesh, a Congress poster featuring the BJP candidate of the constituency was prominently plastered on the main dais at the venue.
The photograph of Union minister and BJP candidate Fagan Singh Gulaste against whom Rahul was poised to campaign against was featured along with other Congress leaders on a Congress campaign poster displayed at the rally. Realising their mistake, Congress workers hastily pulled it down and replaced Gulaste’s pic with that of Congress MLA Rajneesh Harvansh Singh.
Rahul is all set to campaign in Mandla for the Congress candidate in that constituency, Omkar Singh, a former minister and four-time MLA from Dindori. He is pitted against six-time BJP MLA Gulaste. In 2014, the two had contested against each other and Gulaste had won with a margin of 1 lakh votes. Gulaste, however, had lost in the recent assembly elections in the state in Niwas-ST.
Rahul is campaigning at Dhanora in southern Seoni district, which along with Shahdol, is largely a tribal area and has traditionally stood with the Congress. These tribal areas favour Congress and voted for them in the recent Assembly polls as well. Congress had won 22 seats of the 47 reserved seats for STs.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has upped the ante in the state by flagging off a massive roadshow in the Jabalpur in the state on Sunday (April 7). The PM’s campaign was more focussed on Mahakoshal region, where the Congress stronghold Chhindwara is located.
In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress had won just one seat in Chhindwara out of the 29 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Out of 29 seats in MP, 10 are reserved for SC and ST candidates. The elections here will be conducted in four phases starting from April 19.
