The BJP has slapped a show cause notice on former Union minister Jayant Sinha for not taking an active part in campaigning for the party.

Manish Jaiswal was named the candidate from Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh, which Sinha had represented in the outgoing Lok Sabha.

Jharkhand BJP general secretary Aditya Sahu said in a communication to Sinha that the latter did not bother to even vote when Hazaribagh went to the polls on Monday.

Sinha is son of former BJP leader and former Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha.

What's the charge?

"You are not taking any interest in organisational work and election campaigning ever since the party declared Jaiswal as the candidate from Hazaribagh. You did not even feel proper to exercise your right of franchise,” the BJP notice said.

“The party's image has been maligned due to your conduct," it said.

The BJP has sought an explanation from Sinha within two days.

Hours before the announcement that Jaiswal would be the candidate for Hazaribagh, Sinha had requested the party to relieve him from electoral politics.

The letter to Sinha comes days after the Congress announced that the former MP’s son Aashir Sinha had joined the grand old party.
