Swaraj quashes report of appointment as Andhra guv
Soon after Union minister Harsh Vardhan congratulated former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Twitter on being appointed the new governor of Andhra Pradesh, Swaraj tweeted back rebutting any such appointment.
Vardhan’s message on Twitter on Monday (June 10) sparked a series of congratulatory tweets and messages with people wishing Swaraj good luck on her new role. But the euphoria was short-lived as the former minister was quick to quash the reports in her own humorous way.
“I called on the Vice President of India Shri Venkaiah Naidu ji for demitting office as Minister of External affairs. This was enough for Twitter to appoint me as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh,” she tweeted late on Monday.
“The news about appointment as Governor of Andhra Pradesh is not true,” she said in a later tweet.
Earlier, Vardhan had tweeted, “Congratulations to senior BJP leader and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj ji on being appointed the Governor of Andhra Pradesh.” He later deleted the tweet after Swaraj’s clarification.
Swaraj did not contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections citing ill health. As an External Affairs Minister, she was known for her ability to communicate with Indians across the world and send immediate help to those in distress.
