I won't play next World Cup; Guardiola best coach in the world, says Messi
Lionel Messi, who is in Beijing for a friendly match against Australia on Thursday, says he may have played his last World Cup (Qatar, 2022) which Argentina won.
“As I said earlier, I don’t think I will play next World Cup. I haven’t changed my mind yet. I’d like to be there to watch it, but I won’t participate. After winning the World Cup, which was missing from my stable, I am satisfied and grateful, and this is what is most important to me,” the Argentine player was reported as saying in Chinese media.
On Ballon D’ Or
On winning Ballon d’Or, Messi said, “Does Ballon d’Or matter to me? No. At this stage in my life, it is no longer important to me. As I’ve always said, individual prizes don’t matter. The greatest prize so far is the World Cup.”
On Barçelona fans still chanting his nameÂ
Though I wasn’t there, it was strange that they were still chanting my name. Yes, I understand why. I spent many years there, and so did my kids. I have a deep relationship with Barcelona.
On Lionel Scaloni, Argentina’s World Cup-winning coach
I think all coaches are different and they have their own styles, but for us, Scaloni is a special person regardless of the results we always achieved. His idea, his work style, and the way he communicates with the team, everything makes him a special person.
On Pep Guardiola (coach of Manchester City)Â
Yes, Pep deserved to win the Champions League. He is the best coach in the world.
Tips for next-generation players
