BJP's first-time RS MP Ashok Gasti dies of COVID-19
Ashok Gasti, a first-time Rajya Sabha member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Karnataka, died due to COVID-19.

The Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road, Bengaluru, confirmed late on Thursday that the MP died at 10:31 pm. He was 55.
The hospital said the MP had ‘severe COVID-19 pneumonia’ and was critical after multi-organ failure. He was on life support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Mr. Gasti was from Raichur in north Karnataka and was previously a booth-level worker, NDTV reported. He was elected to the upper House in June but could not attend the session due to the pandemic.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed Mr. Gasti a ‘dedicated karyakarta.’

Rajya Sabha chairperson M Venkaiah Naidu also remembered the leader for his ‘simplicity and commitment.’
Earlier, there was some confusion as some senior leaders had tweeted ahead of the death.
