Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar, who unsuccessfully contested on a Congress ticket in last year’s Lok Sabha election and later resigned from the party, will join the Shiv Sena on Monday (November 30), according to a report.
India Today reported that the actress-turned-politician will join the party and no further details about her joining have been shared.
In March 2019, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Urmila joined the Congress. She contested from Mumbai North and lost to BJP’s Gopal Shetty by 4.65 lakh votes. In September last year, she quit the party due to “petty in-house politics”.

“My political and social sensibilities refuse to allow vested interests in the party to use me as a mean to fight petty in-house politics instead of working on a bigger goal in Mumbai Congress,” she had said in a statement explaining why she quit.
“To my utter dismay, the letter containing privileged and confidential communication was conveniently leaked to the media, which according to me, was an act of blatant betrayal. Needless to say, no one from the party was apologetic or even concerned towards me for the same despite my repeated protests,” she said.
Last month, the Shiv Sena picked Urmila as one of the 12 nominees for the Maharashtra Legislative Council. The party MP Sanjay Raut told The Indian Express, “Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has spoken to Matondkar and she has agreed to be nominated by the Sena.”
