Uddhav visits cyclone-hit Raigad, announces ₹100-crore aid
Two days after cyclone Nisarga left a trail of destruction in Raigad district of Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday (June 5) announced financial assistance of ₹100 crore for the district.
The Chief Minister visited Alibaug taluk of Raigad district that is around 110 km from Mumbai to take stock of the situation. Thackeray said he had directed officials to expedite the assessment of damage caused by the cyclone that made landfall in the coastal district on June 3 afternoon.
High-speed winds accompanied by rains caused large-scale damage in coastal areas. Almost 15 taluks in the district, including Alibag, Margaon, Mhasala, Murud, Pen, Roha, Srivardhan and Tala were left with no electricity or network connectivity.

“This assistance (of ₹100 crore) will be given for emergency relief. This is just a beginning. Don’t call it a package,” said Thackeray. He added that the COVID-19 threat could increase because of rain.
“We have to stop other rain-related ailments as well. We will not leave anyone in the lurch. Restoring electricity supply, telecommunications and house repairs is our priority,” he said.
Thackeray, who arrived in Alibaug from Mumbai, was accompanied ministers Aaditya Thackeray and Aslam Shaikh. Raigad guardian minister Aditi Tatkare and Collector Nidhi Chaudhary briefed the CM about the post-cyclone situation.
