Telangana starts English language training for govt school teachers
Telangana’s State Council of Educational Research and training (SCERT) has started an English Language Enrichment Course for government school teachers in the state in collaboration with Azim Premji University.
The training for the teachers in English language, which started on Monday (March 21), is a part of the State’s decision to introduce English medium in all the government schools from the current academic year for classes one to eight.
State Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy recently launched the training session for the key resource persons, who in turn, are now training the teachers to learn English.
The teachers would be trained to teach different subjects in English medium.
The training session will be held in a phased manner and over 16,000 teachers will be trained during the first phase.

A cabinet sub-committee, formed to study the proposal on English medium and work out the modalities for its implementation and regulate fees in private schools, headed by Reddy, stated recently that textbooks should be printed in both Telugu as well as English languages.
The sub-panel had also directed the officials to provide training to teachers so that they are equipped to teach in English medium.
“With the introduction of English medium, there is also a possibility that admissions will increase in government schools. The education department should be equipped to accommodate more students,” the committee had said.
