Udhayanidhi Stalin appointed DMK's youth wing secy
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin’s actor-turned-politician son Udhayanidhi Stalin was appointed as the secretary of the party’s youth wing on Thursday (July 4).
Udhayanidhi’s elevation has been doing the rounds since he began getting involved in party activities a couple of years ago. With his appointment, Udhayanidhi becomes the third youth wing secretary of the party.
Udhayanidhi shot into prominence in the party after he campaigned for all the 40 candidates who contested in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election and for the 22 DMK candidates in the Assembly bypolls. Sources in the DMK said the move to elevate him was first proposed by party’s principal secretary TR Baalu and was widely accepted by most of the senior leaders in the party including former minister KN Nehru.
The idea, according to the sources, took shape in the recent days after the party’s youth wing secretary, MP Saminathan resigned from the post. The DMK’s young wing was formed by MK Stalin in 1966 and he was appointed its secretary in 1983.
After holding the post for 34 years, Stalin stepped down to take charge as the working president of the party after M Karunanidhi’s death in 2018.
